Why Do I Need to Matriculate?

Matriculation is the process by which you are formally admitted as a student to the University of Edinburgh. Matriculation only applies to those studying on a credit-bearing course. Even if you don’t intend to submit assessments and study for credit, you should still matriculate. Some courses are taught in buildings, or use specific computing suites, that require a student login to access. In addition, teachers will make course materials available online which can’t be accessed if you don’t matriculate.

I've never studied for Credit or Matriculated at the University of Edinburgh before:

I'm currently an UG or PG student at the University of Edinburgh:

You still need to matriculate to gain access to your Short Course programme, but you don't have to complete steps 1 and 2. Go straight to Step 3.

I'm a member of staff at the University of Edinburgh:

You'll need to matriculate to get a student record to study with us (different from your staff EASE). You'll not be able to view your course in LEARN if you're logged in with your staff EASE.  Start at step 1.

I've previously studied and matriculated with COL (but not in this academic year):

You'll need to matriculate again but you don't have to complete steps 1 and 2. Go straight to Step 3.

I've previously studied and matriculated with the University of Edinburgh (but not in this academic year):

You'll need to matriculate again but you don't have to complete steps 1 and 2. Go straight to Step 3.

I've already matriculated as a COL Credit Student this academic year?

No need to matriculate again this year!
