Online Lectures Wednesday 2 June 2021 - The Book as an Art Form Title: The Book as an Art Form Time: 19:00 - 20:15 Tutor: Susie Wilson 'An artist’s book is a work that does not exist in any other form, is not a reproduction of pre-existing work, and is created as a book as the first instantiation and expression of a project’ - Johanna Drucker. In this talk, Teaching Fellow Susie Wilson gives an overview of the varied and multidisciplinary nature of the artist book and look at the historical context from which it has developed. From the democratic multiple to one-of-a-kind, the artist book has established itself over the past 70 years as a discipline in its own right. Susie has a BA (Hons) and Postgraduate in Drawing and Printmaking and for the past fifteen years the book form has been central to her practice. She has won several awards, most recently the Nancy Graham Memorial Book Award 2020 and was invited Artist in Residence at Edinburgh College of Art Library in 2016. Her work is held in a number of national institutions, including the National Galleries of Scotland and she teaches and exhibits widely.
