Explore Edinburgh

At the University of Edinburgh Summer School, you'll be based in the heart of the city and will have the chance to spend time exploring the historic and vibrant capital of Scotland.

Edinburgh is easy to get around, on foot or by using our great network of buses, trams or trains. Although our city is compact, it's also bustling with so much to offer any visitor. With a large collection of historic buildings and green spaces, it’s easy to see why parts of the city have been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Sites. There are also a huge number of museums, art galleries and theatres to feed the culture vulture in you while you are here!

In short, there is so much to keep you entertained in Edinburgh once you've finished your studies for the day; whether shopping or eating out are your bag, or you're looking for something sporty to do in your free time - it's all here! We encourage students to embrace the city and its culture and take part in the variety of social activities available.

Here's a good guide to all you need to know to plan and enjoy a visit to Edinburgh

Social Programme

An example timetable with social activities can be found on each course page within the ‘Timetable’ section. We will share a final timetable with students prior to arrival.

Please note: Social activities are compulsory for all pre-university students.

In your free time outside of the course, we also recommend that you experience life as a local and here are a few top tips of things to do:
