Safety and Support

We want all of our Pre-University students to have an enjoyable experience in Edinburgh. We have robust measures in place to support our students and look after their safety and wellbeing during their time with us.

Keeping You Safe

We support students and keep them safe by:

  • Appointing Designated and Deputy Safeguarding Leads
  • Employing dedicated Resident Assistants to stay with students and supervise them at the accommodation (minimum staff to student ratio of 1:20)
  • Ensuring all staff responsible for supporting or delivering elements of the programme are PVG (Protecting Vulnerable Groups) certified
  • Providing compulsory safeguarding training for staff
  • Enforcing student and staff codes of conduct
  • Observing policies and procedures that promote the welfare and safety of young people
  • Risk assessing all Pre-University activities
  • Implementing clear reporting mechanisms for staff and students to raise issues and concerns

In advance of the programme, students and parents/guardians will be invited to attend an online briefing session to meet our team and find out more about the support available.

Setting Expectations

To avoid misunderstandings, we want to be clear about some of the key conditions of Pre-University placement. All students, without exception, must:

  • Meet our eligibility criteria
  • Arrive and depart on the dates and times specified
  • Stay in University accommodation with our Resident Assistants for the entirety of the Summer School
  • Not leave Edinburgh at any point during the Summer School, unless to attend supervised educational or social activities organised by us
  • Engage in all classes and all educational and social activities
  • Adhere to all curfews

The above list is not exhaustive, and full details of our rules and guidelines can be found in the Pre-University Student Code of Conduct and Guardian Consent Form below. We appreciate that not everyone will agree with the rules and expectations we have in place to keep our students safe and therefore may not wish to sign our code of conduct, regrettably where this is the case we will be unable to offer a place on the programme.
