Summer In the City - Leith

We continue to explore some of the best summer hotspots to spend your days (and nights!) in Edinburgh.

From concerts at the castle to picnics in the parks, there really is so much for visitors to get involved in throughout Edinburgh in the summertime.

But what about those lesser known gems?

You know, the less touristy spots where you’ll get to know the city a bit better…

Well one of our favourites would have to be the historic port of Leith in the North of the city.

Eat, Drink and Be Merry in Leith

Leith boasts an impressive foodie scene that includes Michelin-star restaurants, vibrant cafes, cool bars and great options for casual and takeaway dining.

If you’re in the mood for shopping, you can follow Leith Walk or Elm Row to find a variety of independent stores, or if you’re there on a Saturday, swing by the Leith Farmers Market for street food, local produce and artisan gifts.

Oh, and if you’re into Royal history, or even just a fan of Netflix’s The Crown, then be sure to make a visit to (Her Majesty’s) Royal Yacht Britannia. This is five star tourist attraction is the former yacht of Queen Elizabeth II and for over 44 years served the Royal Family, travelling more than a million nautical miles providing the perfect Royal residence for glittering state visits, official receptions, Royal honeymoons and relaxing family holidays.

Nowadays however you don’t need to be Royal to take afternoon tea on the yacht’s deck!
